Hello
to all members, families and friends of the Fellowship, wherever you may be at
this time of reading. It is always a joy to sit at the computer, read through
notes taken from the nets, from e-mails and from phone calls, and endeavour to
translate these into a letter which we hope informs, challenges, and helps all
who read. But we would remind you all that this letter is a forum for any news,
testimonies, or requests from members, and contributions are welcome – in fact
would be a blessing – so please keep this in mind.
Fellowship News
Let
us begin today with a word from a Psalm of David, expressing the goodness and
faithfulness of the Lord, which many members have and are experiencing
following some life challenges:
“The Lord is righteous in all his
ways, and loving towards all he has made. The Lord is near to all who call on
him, to all who call on him in truth … The Lord watches over all who love
him.” (Ps 145 NIV).
ADAM
ZL1VI – Has recently obtained new dipole antenna for 40m and 20m. Good to hear
Adam again recently.
BARRY
ZL2FV – Has been recently hospitalized, and we thank God for his recovery and
return home. Please remember in prayer the health of both Barry and wife
Alison.
BOB
ZL1BMA – A message received thanking all for care, concern and prayers.
Recovery from ankle injury continues. Bob will log onto nets when able, though
not yet sure when this will be. We continue to pray.
CECIL
ZL1BXT – Wonderful to hear Cecil come up on 40m last Sunday. On Friday 18 July
Cecil and Mavis celebrated 69 years of marriage. We wish them both God’s
richest blessing, giving thanks for the years past. Cecil reports that they
both are generally in good health, apart from need for help with house and
garden, and care for Mavis. Cecil was to give a talk at Hillcrest Chapel
Seniors group, on the theme of “searching the Scriptures to ensure that any
teaching received is correct”.
BRIAN
ZL1HN had been around to give assistance in enabling Cecil to remote-tune his
antenna from inside his house. We know that many have been recipients of such
help from Brian, and we always welcome his joining in our nets when he is
able.
DAVID
ZL1DGK – Was involved recently in motor accident, with thankfully no serious
injury. Car needed extensive work, but in the process David has met some
“wonderful people who have helped make this process very easy and stress free.
May God bless them all”. Thank you
David for that message.
DAVID
ZL1UTS - Awaiting results of electrical
regulation examinations. “It is now
completely in the Lord’s hands…”.
Indeed, David – the best
place. We ask members to keep David and family in prayers.
ERIC
ZL1ASI and Rowan have recently had a Mother in hospital. As we support older
family members, we so often have need of extra strength and wisdom, and we pray
this for Eric and Rowan, and indeed all in our Fellowship who are in similar
circumstances.
GARY
ZL3SV – A recent business trip to North Island which included Palmerston North
and Hamilton, no doubt included some calls on fellow-amateurs. Gary and
Christine will be in Christchurch this week for meetings, visits and
celebration of an Aunt’s 90th birthday. We wish a successful, happy
trip, with journeying mercies.
GRAHAM
ZL3NZ – We are happy to say that at this stage recent medical tests have
produced a reasonably good result, for which we are thankful.
JOHN
ZL3TR – So good to hear John on air 19 July, from his own QTH. May God’s
presence be with John through every challenge.
KELVIN
ZL1LY – Some minor surgery has had a satisfactory outcome, for which we are
thankful.
LINDSAY
ZL2KS – Please continue to pray for wife Eril during recovery (see June
Letter). Lindsay advises, “…I can testify that through it all … our Father has
given strength to cope …”. We pray for God’s mercy and grace for this faithful
couple.
LOU
ZL1USN – An email message states that Lou enjoys the sessions on 40m and 80m,
though disappointed when signals drop off. We have been much encouraged by
Lou’s regular participation, despite (at times) challenging conditions. Thank
you Lou, and God bless you. As Graham is often saying, it can only get better!
PETER
ZL2APJ – We were encouraged to hear Peter on a recent Sunday net (6 July) when
he informed us of his wedding anniversary that day. God’s richest blessing on
Peter and Noeline.
RON
ZL2OY – Ron will be due to return home on Sunday 26 July from an overseas trip
which was outlined in last letter. We sincerely trust this trip was an
experience of blessing for Ron, and that he has returned safe and well.
Blessings to him and daughter Sharon.
(Ron was to spend a short time with ALAN ZL2TAG and Averil in Thailand,
and hopefully we may hear some news of them).
STAN
ZL4OW – Has had a further short time in hospital, and we pray for Stan as he
supports his elderly sister (recent accident) and daughter Jennifer. May God’s
comfort and mercy be a reality for them all.
SYD
ZL1BRS – Has recently spent a time in hospital, but we understand is home and
recovering. Our prayers will be with Syd and Matiria. Also, Syd’s rig has been away for repair, hence he hasn’t been able
to join Sunday nets. We will look forward to hearing him again when able.
There
are many others who log in regularly or as able, and may not be mentioned here
– but every one is a tremendous encouragement, and all are remembered in
prayer, as are those members whom we know are unable to make contact, be they
near or far away. Thank you for being there, and God’s blessing be upon you.
CARF
CARF
(Christian Amateur Radio Fellowship – USA).
Founded in 1966 by Gerald Fergusson, W9JSQ – known as “Grandfather of
CARF”. He believed amateur radio should
be more than just a hobby for
Christians, but should also be a ministry. He encouraged missionaries to become
licensed and take radios on to mission field.
Members often sign off with 73 and 75 (“God bless you and yours”).
IN CONCLUSION
Over
a hundred years ago in England, the borough of West Stanley endured a great
tragedy. A mine collapsed, trapping and killing many of the workers inside.
The Bishop of Durham, Dr Handley Moule,
was asked to bring a word of comfort to the mourners. Standing at the mouth of
the mine, he said, “It is very difficult for us to understand why God should
let such an awful disaster happen, but we know Him and trust Him, and it will
be all right.”
He continued: “I have at home an old bookmark given to me by my mother. It is
worked in silk, and when I examine the wrong side of it, I see nothing but a
tangle of threads, crossed and re-crossed. It looks like a big mistake. One would think that someone had done it who
did not know what she was doing. But when I turn it over and look at the right
side, I see, beautifully embroidered, the words, “GOD IS LOVE!”.
He continued: “We are looking at today’s tragedy from the wrong side. Some day
we shall see it from another standpoint and shall understand. Until then, [may we be able to] focus less
on the tangled threads and more on the hand of the Weaver.”
(This article was used by retired
Baptist Minister Lawrie Rankin in a recent magazine; printed here with his
permission).
“And
we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them
who are the called according to His purpose”.
(Romans 8:28).
73,
and until we meet again, God bless you all.
