WARREN ZL3WPS (Hamilton) – Warren’s Mother (Dorothy) passed away on 4 September 2011, with her service held at Seddon Park Funeral Home on 7 September. Our thoughts and prayers have been with Warren through this time of sadness and readjustment in his life. Is meanwhile keeping busy with past and new interests, and looking forward to a backpackers holiday in Darwin.
CECIL ZL1BXT (Hamilton) Cecil’s daughter (who recently celebrated 70th birthday) has undergone major surgery, but making a good recovery. Also a Granddaughter in Sydney has been unwell. We give thanks that Cecil himself maintains good health for his wonderful age, and that he is such an encouragement to many – but we join him in thoughts and prayers for his family just now.
DAVID ZL1UTS (Auckland) – Has enjoyed some recent gliding, with aviation flying examinations to sit. Has Electrical Registration also coming up, and requests prayer. Prayer also sought for the ongoing caregiving situation with Jaden, as well as good health and strength for both David and Lyn.
ALAN ZL2TAG (Gore) Much to give thanks for at Calvin Church, where Alan and Averil presently have oversight. Alan had a recent telephone chat with STAN ZL4OW, who is keeping bright and well. We have lovely memories of Stan on our nets, and would always love to hear him again. Meanwhile Alan’s daughter Kristina and family are on a year’s study leave in Britain from mission work in South Sudan. Averil travelled two weeks ago to Thailand to oversee projects, arriving in the midst of some of Thailands worst floods for many years. Please remember to pray for her safety and a fruitful visit – also the land of Thailand where such devastation has occurred. (See also under Lindsay ZL2LKS below).
KEITH ZL3AHL – (Christchurch) Keith has had a recent visit to hospital for insertion of two stents, and is apparently making good progress, though taking things quietly meantime. Our thoughts and prayers with Keith and his Grace. Keith still has some radio problems with antenna down, but we hope to hear him up and running when he is able.
MARK ZL4WT (Upper Hutt) Church recently involved with Promise Keepers. Is encouraged by his Church’s new “open invitation” for congregation to share in word or in song, ‘”awakening the love and good works God has prepared for us”. The Community Services Course which Mark is attending was to involve speaking on Marae. Mark appreciates prayer for his involvement in this course.
RAY ZL2TDO (Lower Hutt) – on 4 December
Ray’s daughter and son-in-law will travel to China to bring back a little
adopted boy (James), after a wait of 7 years. May God bless this family as
little James and his parents adjust to the new life for them all. We will remember in prayer.
GARY ZL3SV (Motueka) Gary and Christine were recent guests of Samoan Idol during its filming in Samoa. where they have 16 radio stations , some of which are Christian. An enjoyable time, and a break from a heavy workload at home.
LINDSAY ZL2LKS (Palmerston North) – True Light FM radio now has 95% coverage in Gore, with technical assistance from Alan ZL2TAG using a low power FM station. This is streaming through internet and on to radio, with hopes it will eventually be run from the Church. We are grateful to receive the monthly prayer letters from Lindsay ZL2LKS, and would encourage prayer for this ministry. Calvin Jonker of Wanganui East Baptist Church was guest speaker at this year’s Annual Fellowship Meeting on 23/9/11.
BRUCE ZL4BEP
(Oamaru) We had a most enjoyable visit from Bruce on Monday 5 September, while
he was staying with friends in the city. Bruce and Graham had a great time
talking radios and computers, and with ensuing communications between them,
hopefully Bruce will soon be DX-ing, since he is now on internet and cluster.
We look forward to hearing Bruce again on Nets some day, once all the bits are
up and running. Photo shows Bruce in
Graham’s radio room, Waikuku. Those with computers can enlarge photos on screen
for better view.
LOU ZL1USN (Nelson) - We appreciate hearing Karen when she shares a word with us all, and remember her in our prayers as she faces health challenges.
JOHN ZL3TR (Christchurch) – We would ask that John be remembered in prayer as he is just not so well. With regard to his quest for a microphone, his advertising in Break-In has been unsuccessful. If anyone can help with providing John with the following, please either contact us, or John at Pacific Haven (03 388 5983). He is needing a YD 844A or YD 148, with 4 terminal pins which fit into the FT101 series of transceivers for Yaesu rigs. More information is listed on pp.1-11 in the maintenance service manual for FT101ZD.
GREAT
TIME TOGETHER
Monday 3 October saw LOU ZL1USN, his dear friend KAREN, ALAN ZL2TAG, and PETER ZL3AQN out here at Waikuku. . Lou had arranged to meet here when he knew Alan would be stoppng off in ChCh on way home from a Thai Church Conference in Auckland. He also contacted Peter, who made the rather long journey from Lyttelton. A wonderful opportunity for Lou and Karen to meet others for first time – and for us to see them all again. Real blessing and great fellowship. Thanks Alan for your prayer for us all, prior to your departure.

PROFILE
– PETER UREN ZL1CDF
Peter won’t be expecting this, as his dear wife Estelle sent it in to us unbeknown to him! But we were so pleased to receive it, and hope you will be blessed too, Peter!
Peter
has been active in radio since the tender age of about ten years old. He was
born in Hamilton in 1937. When he was
about eighteen months of age it is believed a contaminated Diphtheria shot was
given, causing horrendous and long term ongoing health problems. Peter was
hospitalized many times and from the age of eight was home schooled. Despite all these setbacks and problems he
passed exams and got an apprenticeship with a firm in Hamilton who, despite Peter
having constant time off work, valued his work highly.
He met and married his wife Estelle
in 1961 in the Huntly Gospel Hall and they settled in Hamilton. Peter finished
his apprenticeship in November 1961 and the business was sold. The new owners
did not want to pay Peter a higher wage because of the qualifications. Nineteen sixty-three arrived and with it
came the recession and 60 applicants for every job in the country which meant
leaving their new home and going where the work was.
They have one daughter and four
grandchildren. Peter and Estelle celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary on
4th November 2011. Huntly is
Estelle’s home town and they have been living there since 1978 and have been
active members of the Huntly Baptist Church since 1979.
Present
address, 4 Fraser Street, Huntly 3700

We wish warmest congratulations and many blessings to Peter and Estelle on their coming anniversary, and may the hand of our Heavenly Father be upon them both, to give good health in the years to come. We value so much Peter’s faithful participation in our Fellowship.
IN
CONCLUSION – “KEEPING BUSY?”
[The following thoughts by Julie Ackerman Link appeared in “Our Daily Bread”, and surely applies to many of us].
Sometimes we are confronted with the following question posed by wellmeaning folk: “Are you keeping busy?” Although no harm is meant, the question has possibilities of questioning my worth, if I am not able to list a whole lot of activities with which I am busy. But does our Heavenly Father determine our value by how busy we are? Does He reward us for living on the edge of exhaustion and not taking care of ourselves? A wonderful verse in Matthew’s Gospel reads: “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”. (Matt.11:28). When one is young and unfamiliar with weariness, this may not apply to us. But when we become older, there is the temptation to keep pace with the world in order to not be left behind. As believers, we can gain comfort from the fact that not only has our Father released us from slavery to sin, but also from the bondage of having to prove our worth.
“Christ
never asks of us such busy labour
As
leaves no time for resting at His feet;
The
waiting attitude of expectation
He
often counts as service most complete”.
Wishing many blessings to you all, until we meet again,
Graham ZL3NZ and Mary ZL3MD
